The southern village of Lakithra is in a spectacular setting. The hamlet’s whitewashed buildings are nestled into green foothills, which look out towards the Ionian Sea. Its higher location means there’s always a nice breeze, even in the hot summer months.
The village centre is made up of timeworn churches, tavernas serving local food, and family-run businesses, including a traditional Greek bakery and a couple of mini markets. It’s still very much unspoilt and you can experience the authentic everyday village life
Lakithra gives you easy access to some of Kefalonia’s best beaches. It’s just a 10-minute drive from Lassi, where you’ll find not one, but two ribbons of sand – Makris Yialos and Platis Yialos. They’re both fringed with restaurants, cafés, and bars offering happy hours.
Also the capital, Argostoli. is only a 10-minute drive north, and is home to archaeological museums, great shops and a central square spilling over with coffee shops and restaurants.
