The Montgo Mountain provides the backdrop and atmosphere for the whole of the Javea region. Its imposing pink stone facade is both majestic and romantic. When the sun sets on the Mountain its rosy tincture reflects on the surrounding countryside and buildings for miles around.
I wasnt sure what to expect from this resort halfway between Alicante and Valencia. Tales of mass market tourism and its trappings plague the Costa Blanca. What i found was a cosmopolitan town, loved by Brit's, French, Scandanavians and the many Madridians who drive down from the capital. The town of Javea itslef has a thriving, bustling Marina which sits at the end of the promenade. The promenade itself has plentiful fish and traditional tapas restaurants. They are chic, and modern and reflect the cosmopolitan clientele. The fish hasnt travelled far from catch of the day" to your plate, and there is nothing better to accompany it than with a bottle of the locally produced wine. (Ask Cary for a name) Further along the coast is the beach is more reminiscent of Brazil than Alicante. A gently shelving bay is surounded by clean white sand. Well kept plants and palm trees lend an exotic feel.
This sheltered beach would be ideal for families.
At the other end of the beach is the Arenal. Allthough this part of Javea is more lively with a few music bars and shops selling souvenirs its not too much and provides an opportunity for a more lively night out.
Villa Select has properties in Jesus Pobre about 6 miles from Javea. This charming traditional Spanish town benefits from both the rural peace and quiet of the Montgo Mountain to the town of Javea with all its eateriesn beach and night spots. The best of both worlds!
The Villas position necessatate a car, however, that will allow you to also visit the nearby towns of Denia, and Moraira!
Perhaps the most lovely surprise of Javea is the charmimg old town. With its winding streets and close buildings on either side you are never sure if the next turning wiLl lead to a delightful square. Have lunch in one of Javeas many restaurants in the old town in the shadow of the beautiful old castle which still stands guard.
Then visit the cutting edge "church of the fishermen" its avant garde" design at odds with the crumbling elegance of the rest of Javea.
From leisurely strolls around the old town to beach and water sports Javea can offer something for every taste.
