Description

Villa Vaughn is located on a stark slope that overlooks Lia, one of the most beautiful beaches in Mykonos, and affords spectacular views that extend all the way to the bay of Kalafatis. This handsome example of Cycladic architecture is one of two sister villas that can be rented separately or together to accommodate larger parties.True to the vernacular architecture, the architect of the structure presents a contemporary twist to the traditional island dwelling. The building reflects the stark yet eye-capturing contrast of the soothing palette of the earth and sky and the harshness of the landscape. Polished-concrete floorings and white-washed walls are softened by curved edges and the emerald waters of the infinity swimming pool. Pergola-shaded areas are incorporated to offer a shelter from the sun and the bitter winds and create space for the outdoor lounge and dining areas, while offering panoramic views of the Aegean.

The interior is fully contemporary yet perfectly attuned to the elegant Cycladic design. Each space leads to the next through arched doorways or tall openings with curved edges. Although spacious and ultimately luxurious, the rooms induce a cave-like feeling that is accentuated by the absolute lack of straight lines. The design is based on the Mykonian aesthetics, with contemporary touches that take it up a notch and create an elegant and relaxing backdrop. The palette is natural, mainly in soothing tones of beige, brown and grey.

The residence is entered through an arched portal which leads to the heart of the house, a spacious living room with floor-length windows that offer views to the seascape. Its high wooden ceilings and comfortable designer furniture are highlighted by the lack of ornamentation. In the same concept and mood, the dining area is stylish and minimal, served by a fully equipped kitchen. The bedrooms are spacious and bright, with floor-length windows that let the sunlight in and connect the interior to the outdoors. The decorations are here too kept to a minimum in order to let the mind relax and take in the beauty of the landscape. Comfortable designer beds are upholstered with carefully selected materials to create an ultimately indulging atmosphere. The décor is completed by a few antique pieces that grant a sophisticated touch. There is also a separate guest house with two bedrooms which is ideal to accommodate your guests.
