The Algarve also possesses the best weather and some of the finest beaches on the continent and this holiday paradise has become one of the most popular destinations for UK holiday makers. Just three miles west of Albufeira are 3 of the Algarve’s best beaches; Castelo, Gale, and Sao Rafael. The long summer season with gentle breezes bringing the temperature down to a comfortable 25 degrees ensures even September and October are still warm, and swimming is perfectly possible.
Guia, is about 3 miles inland and famed for its excellent restaurants. It has been relatively unchanged by tourism and remains traditionally Portuguese. Foodies can sample local home cooking, fresh cheese with pumpkin jam, chicken with delicious sauces and homemade fig ice cream!
As for the local wines, anyone who says the Algarve can’t produce good wines as its too arid and hot is wrong! There are some wonderful wines now appearing made in the Algarve. Most are Portuguese “Quintas” – (the word means farms) and vineyards and some have some “French influence” both in the making of the wines and some of the grapes used, but all are really good.
